Star Gazing: Attempt #1

While on our camping trip to Idaho this summer, I had hoped to take advantage of being so far away from the city that I could take the kids stargazing. However, I didn’t anticipate how late it would be when it finally got dark enough. In Idaho, the sun doesn’t even start to go down until 9:30 pm in the summer…and the light sort of lingers another 45 minutes. I decided to give it a go anyway. I had kept Jayden and Alex awake until 10:30 pm…way past their normal bedtime…and found a picnic table in the middle of a large clearing of trees we could lay on. As much as I tried to get them to lay still and appreciate the vastness of the stars, they were not having it. Their attention span at age six is already limited….throw in being tired, and it amounted to a lot of restless giggling and eventual whining. So, I’m calling for a do-over on that one. We’ll have to give it another go in the winter when it gets darker much earlier.
